VOTING VIA MAIL IN ABSENTEE BALLOT:
To vote via mail in absentee ballot, either:
1) You registered to vote “in person”
(“in person” means personally registering at the Secretary of State or at your county clerk)
2) You have voted in a Michigan election before
(You are a “veteran voter”)
IF NEITHER OF THESE OPTIONS IS TRUE, THEN YOU CANNOT VOTE VIA MAIL IN ABSENTEE BALLOT.
Assuming that 1 or 2 above is true, then:
You must APPLY to vote via mail in absentee ballot.
This requires (UGH !) FILLING OUT AN APPLICATION FORM TO VOTE ABSENTEE AND HAND DELIVERING IT OR MAILING IT TO YOUR CLERK (DOUBLE UGH!) BY OCTOBER 11, 2016 (TRIPLE UGH!). You will receive your ballot by mail. Then, of course, you need to complete it. The Clerk must receive your completed ballot by November 5, 2016 - the Saturday before election day. So, you need to allow ample time to:
1) mail your app; 2) receive the sample ballot; 3) mail back the completed ballot so that it reaches your clerk by November 5, 2016.
THE FORM LOOKS LIKE THE ONE PICTURED BELOW.
COMPLETE IT, PRINT IT AND MAIL IT TO YOUR CLERK.
AFTER MAILING THE COMPLETED FORM, THE BALLOT WILL THEN BE MAILED TO YOU. (YAY!). JUST REMEMBER TO SEND IT SO THAT IT REACHES YOUR CLERK BY NOVEMBER 5, 2016!
